Dummy that I am when I took the body off the frame I didn't make any sketches or take pictures of the points where the body attaches to the frame. I bought a new body mount kit from Jim Carter. It has 4 wood blocks and a number of rubber pads along with two 1/2 inch hex bolts and 8 3/8 inch carriage bolts about 6 inches long.

I looked in my reprint maintenance manual but it only gives info on the pickup cab, nothing on the sub body.

Can anyone out there direct me to a diagram or a manual that shows how to mount a sub body to the frame, where the wood blocks go etc. Need help as usual. Thanks Weeds

What is the part number of the Suburban body mount kit that you bought from JC? The pickup bed-blocks are different from the Suburban body blocks.

Also, I do not know if the Suburban blocks are the same for all A-D years.

I will post photos on Thursday. There are thin plates on the frame for mounting the Suburban blocks (special nails were used originally but I used very small diameter stainless wood screws). Two screws per wood block - they clear the block but screw into the metal plates.

Did you keep any of your old blocks?

The Jim Carter invoice says--

1 CBK156 Cab Mount Kit 47/551st, Panel/ Suburban/ Canopy 1/2 ton Kit complete with specialized bushings, washers, bolts,blocks.

It appears that I have the correct kit. Now if I only knew what to do with it. I have saved some of the old blocks. Thanks for the help.

Okay, sorry this took so long. Had to wait for daylight to crawl under the body. ( And after the kids were fed, etc.) Starting at the rear. Rubber pads and carriage bolts. Mount just behind the axle hump, blocks, rubber pads ( between the frame and block ) and carriage bolt. Mount just in front of the hump, block, rubber pad and carriage bolt. Mount behind the door, rubber pad and carriage bolt. Mount at the very front, rubber pad and cap screw ( hex bolt.) You don't have anymore then 10 pads, do you?? You can also get the offset washers for underneath the carriage bolt heads. Looks like Chevy Duty has them in zinc, stainless and polished, although I think the plywood takes the cup type and the Chevy Duty ones look flat.

weeds let us know how it goes. i was looking at that same kit and was curious if it was any good. was it in stock. i have not dealt with carters in while and was thumbing thru their catalog just before i found this post. great timing i believe. i too am amazed at the people here .it's cool to hang around here with these folks

TPYLE I am going to dry fit the body on the frame next week and I will let you know how it goes. I believe Jim Carter had the sub body mount kit in stock because I received it only a couple of days after I ordered it.

Here is a photo album of Suburban body mounts. It includes photos "from below" of all mounts except the front cab mount (which is the same as on a pickup - a recessed metal "cup" on the top of the body and a pad between the body and frame).

I will post another album tomorrow in the headliner thread that you started. Sorry about the delay - I'm taking photos while I'm under the suburban removing transmission, clutch assembly, and flywheel (to have the flywheel resurfaced and balanced).

I have been looking at old 'burbs and panels but the only ones I have been able to see were so rusted or repaired (read patched!) I couldn't tell what was suposed to be.
