Anyone else find anything cool while traveling over the holidays?

My wife and I covered a LOT of ground. In my opinion the only good thing about winter is that the leaves are down and you can peak behind barns better. On the way home from my in-laws near Portland Maine, we stopped to check out a panel that was on a side road visable from the interstate. It was a 57 international, and it was COOL. Brown and cream. 4x4. Built in winch. SOLID looking roof rack. 60/40 front bench with a forrest of levers. 4 spd floor shift-winch-transfer case-front hubs. It used to be a Civil Defense truck. It's still sitting there with a price on the windshield, but you get the feeling he knows what he's got.

Later that week...

While visiting my parents in southern Iowa, my mother told me she'd spotted a boneyard. We went out to take a look and I couldn't believe it. I don't know what I was expecting but it sure wasn't 20 or 30 AD trucks in various states. The lot was all mowed and everything was lined up with a lot of care. It was late and there were no signs of life, so after making my mother promise to drop my info in the nearby mailboxes we left. I probably couldn't have gotten those fenders through airport security anyway.

So, here's a question... Any of you guys live in Northern Missouri? I'm going to give it a day or two, then I'll ask the same question in the general board. Looked like a bunch of goodies there that everyone in bolt-land could use, but I don't want to blab the location of someone's private stash.

If I get any info that I can share, I'll be sure to let you all know.

I go to school in central Iowa, and am always interested in good locations for parts. Wouldn't mind the drive either.

There's a few of us Iowans that would like to know about that secret fishin' hole too. Between Scott Ward (48BigTrucks) and myself we may be able to procure some of your bigger parts and sit on them 'til we figure out how to get them to you via the Stovebolt underground railroad. Slomoe lives in southern Iowa too, but I don't think he peeks in the Panels 'N Burbs forum much. Scott neither for that matter.

Where's that Glen, Iowa State? What part of MN you from? I live in the Cedar Rapids area and get up to St Cloud and Aitkin a lot. My grandkids just moved to Sauk Rapids, so I'll be adding that to the list too.

What BradB said. I have a little land we could store some 'bolts on if need be. My brother lives in Keokuk, Iowa, maybe he's heard of the place too. Let us know of the goldmine you're sitting on,

Yeah I head back to Iowa State Sunday afternoon since spring semester starts monday. Winter break sure was nice to be able to spend time out in the shop and work on my never ending projects. I live about 30 miles north of Rochester.

I love the concept of the "bolt undergound railroad". I MISS the midwest. I grew up in Ames, Ia and went to school in Lamoni, Ia. That's my old stompin' grounds. My truck was a rural school bus for the Coon Rapids district I think.
Get out your secret decoder rings, gps units and treasure maps. The big black treasure X goes just south of Bethany MO. Highway 69 runs out of the south end of town and you'll get to the Bethany Motel. Drive south on 69 past the motel and look to your right, directly behind it. There seem to be plenty to go around. I'm not holding out on the rest of the bolters out there, but being a panel owner, I feel a little extra loyalty to you guys. All the P/U owners are more than welcome, but they'll have to read the Panel forum for the info. *grin*

I haven't made any contact with the owner, and don't even know if he's willing to part with anything. Many of the trucks have parts removed which I took as a good sign.

Someone post if they drive past and find it, and CERTAINLY write back if you make contact. Post a picture of the lot if you can.

(Hey Mr. Iowa State Cyclone... If you have a free afternoon, drive south out of Ames on 69 (south duff). There's a little tiny town called alleman. It's not much more than a bunch of radio towers and nitrogen tanks, but on the corner that would take you into town is a little used car lot. Not much old Bolter Iron, but he's ALWAYS got some really cool stuff around the side and back. Saab Sonnet. Bradley kit car. Older VW Dune buggy. Some oddball stuff that I've only seen there. I think he even had an old BMW Isetta one time. He tells me that old International Bus is entirely filled with old VW engines. Strange dude.)

Joel, Thanks for the heads up. As far as the 'bolt underground railroad goes, I've tried to put connections together before for someone trying to get a too large part shipped cheap. One of these days we'll make it work.

Maybe some of us locals (sorta local) will make a road trip down there one of these days. I have four weeks of school left, and then a lot more free time to do what I want.
