Got the burb body back from the blaster today. Looks very clean without any paint or rust on it. Now starts the body work. Time to start another learning curve. The blasting exposes all the rust thrus. There were more areas that need fixing than I thought but all things considered it still is in pretty good shape. Weeds the younger is posting pics soon. Weeds,Looking forward to the pics. I am going to look at another burb this weekend, suposedly it is pretty rust free and the body is straight. I am ready to buy it if it's what he says it is. It's the shell only less doors and all other sheet metal. I am going to send this one out to the chemical strippers before I start any body work. Now what do I do with the three other burbs and three CE's? Keep them, that's what I do best. ...........g

Looks good for a starting point. Get some primer on that dude before it rerusts on you. Your floorboard have rust in the same spots as mine but mine is in more advanced stage. But my firewal doesn't have as many holes so I guess we're even !! Good Luck.

G-Mo its a 49. 2Mny I don't know if it was a cheese grater or a 12 guage but it sure is peppered. 49B I shot the primer on it this morning so it was exposed about 24 hours. I didnt notice that it had started to re-rust. However I did notice something curious. On the roof in the front portion of the cab I could see where the number '26' had once been painted in about foot high letters. Anybody have a guess as to why? Going into general truck talk with this one also. Weeds

WOW! very nice (thanks for the pics Weed-Y). Pic in primer? I'm jealous of your high roof hanger and lifting straps. Same amount of rust, in same places as mine.

"26 on the roof" ? Maybe something to do with an airport?

From what I can see the firewall does not have the re-inforcement raised ribbing as do the later model firewalls. Maybe the years include the 49 too, I am not positive about that. .............g

1947, & early 1948 model G.M. trucks only, had the non re-inforced firewalls. The re-inforced firewall was introduced, in the late 1948 G.M. truck production line.

Also, the pre late '48 G.M. trucks didn't have the dash notched out, for the column shift rod.

Spank & GMO interesting discussion on firewalls. I am not familiar with firewall subleties. Does my 49 have the reinforced firewall and if so what does it look like? Weeds

Weeds, Your firewall does not have the reinforcement. This makes me believe, your truck may actually be a 1947, or early '48 model. I've emailed you a picture showing the differences.

Spanky got the pics and am still confused. Went to my local Chevy dealer and he thinks maybe he can find the original dealer. Re sent the pic of the vin plate. If you dont get it I will have Weeds the younger post it on the bolt. Let me know. Weeds

what type of primer did you use, looks good also did they make a 3/4 ton panel or was it just the 1 ton that is what we have next few days and my body will have the primer to.

They made 1/2 ton and 1 ton panels and Canopy express' and 1/2 ton only for Suburbans. You must have the only 1 ton panel in your hemisphere! .......g

Kemps I used NAPA Crossfire etching primer which has no catalyst or hardener. Went on easily. Weeds

Spanky Thanks for the insight on the vin on my 49? sub. I too thought the pop rivets looked suspicious. Am throwing this question out on general truck talk and let others chime in. I have a valid Wisconsin title using the vin plate that is now on the truck. Do I let sleeping dogs lie or do I try to research the situation and get it titled properly? Since this is a driver and not for show I am not concerned about absolute authenticity. Weeds

Got an engine with filed numbers since NC titled on the original engine number. I was told by a police friend "don't ask".
