Here's a clean Suburban found on eBay. It would be a great start for some stovebolter. They only seem to appear when I'm broke

Are those taillights stock? I kinda like 'em and I need to do something different with the taillights on my panel.

The tail lights were an options and are the same as from a 39 sedan.

Fiberglass repos are available, and they also come up on ebay once in a while for $100 or so...

Mounting instructions are in the AD Assembly Manual.

They look right. '39 Chevy car taillights are what you should find on one of these. Neither of my Suburbans have those lights though.

Anybody know a vendor on those taillights?

If someone is re-poping those tail lights I've not identified them yet. I've been watching eBay and swap meets. On eBay they always seem to go for more than I'm willing to pay. I saw a set at a swap meet last spring for only $70, but it was late in the day, and I'd spent all my money already...

Those '47.5-'55.5 dual tail/brake lamps for panel/suburban/canopy bodies were a factory option (#249) and are hard to find. These were required equipment in some states at least as early as 1950 (in WA, at least).

In 1954, there was an accessory turn-signal set that came with the housing-cup/switch/knob for mounting under the steering wheel and a wiring harness for tail/stop/signal lamps (also came with wiring and dual-filament bulb holders for the front parking lamps).

Chev's of the 40's used to sell the body-mounting gasket/seal for the dual tail/brake lamp, and also the chrome rings for the lenses and the gasket/seal for the chrome lens ring. As stated above, there does not seem to be a reproduction for the housing but the units show up every so often on eBay.

I was lucky and found a complete NOS 1954 Suburban set in Hemmings in 1997 (complete with fold-out 12-page installation drawings and instructions).

Yeah Tim those are the lights I want...

My '55 1st 3100 has the steering column with the turn signal switch. I don't want the column but would love to have those lights!

Thanks for showing piks of that turn indicator--I've seen bits and pieces of that assembly but never the whole assembly. Do you know if the cars had them and if so will those fit the burb/truck column?

A third one can be mounted above the doors for a high-mount brake light. GM gave the directions in a '48 tech service bulletin - Jim Carter has a copy on his web site.

I found a '38 (I think) Olds tailight on eBay with a cool fin on top. It uses the same lens and retainer as the '39 Chevy. Combined with a rusty '39 Chevy housing (for the indented bottom), I should have a cool roof-mounted taillight.

I see the G9s on the next page look something like the taillights protruding from the rear doors of the other panel.

I called the factory on these lights. They measure 5-1/2" long and 3" across the end at the lens. They are for a 1937 Ford. The difference between these and the 1939 Chevy lens is the mounting surface. The Chevy is a little smaller and has a flat spot at the mounting surface. It wouldn't be hard to flatten a spot on the 37 Fords if one wanted to use them. I also found 2 used sets of 1939 Chevy assemblies. They are in super condition and bring a super price, $200.00
