Wheels that is.

I used the search function but maybe I didn't put in the right string of words.

I have 3 original wheels on my truck and one odd one. I'd like to replace that odd one or just get 4 new wheels that match.

Some of the wheel places around here have 6 lug wheels but the holes are too big. Do they make an adapter that screws on to the smaller bolt and has a sleeve that seats into the hole on the wheel and flares to keep the tire tight and true?

I've checked all the local salvage yards and used tire/wheel places. Nothing.

So where did you find yours and - if you did replace your wheels with new ones, where did you find them? What kind are they? Were the holes small enough to fit on the bolts right?

(And if this topic has already been covered, point me to it. I didn't see it in search)

Thanks in advance.

I looked in the for sale section and posted a wanted ad.

Thanks! smile

Just in case tho - how does one go about fitting the new wheels with the large bolt holes on an old truck? Or do they?

I asked around town but didn't get any real informative replies.

My neighbor has 4 Chevy wheels off of a newer truck with new tires that he said I could have free but though the posts line up with the holes, the lug nuts aren't right to hold them at all. Little bolts, big holes.

I asked about lug nuts that fit the smaller bolts and fit into the hole and are flared for maximum stability for the tire. No one knew what I was talking about.

Not even sure if there is such a thing.

Anywhooo.. I'll keep looking and searching the board.

I see six lug chevy wheels on eBay all the time. They usually can't give them away.

Take those freebies, even if you find out that you can't use em' for your ride right now. I think they call em' "Tradin' Stock". Understand Rubberband?

No need to worry about the stud holes. The correct wheels for the fitment to your truck will be the '87 and older 1/2 ton 4x4, which uses the same 7/16s studs. The newer ('88-'07) trucks use the same pattern, but the offset is far too deep for correct fitment, they also use 14mm wheel studs. As far as the stud situation, if you have the correct fit wheels and the holes are oversize, no spacer or filler peice is needed. You just need to have the correct lug nut that will seat properly to the wheel. You may have to go to a larger hex size nut to seat correctly (13/16 instead of 3/4). Those are readily available from any place that sells aftermarket custom wheels.
ps, you could also swap to a 1/2" stud. I did that on mine. Napa can cross reference the stud knurl from the original 7/16" to a 1/2" stud, no machining required.

Longbox: 87 and older 4x4? Cool! There's a bunch of those around. Great info on the sizing. I've printed it out for future reference.

Tramp: 10-4 on the freebies. smile

Tiny: I'll keep checking ebay

rdavid: Good idea! Thanks.

I did find a place that said they had some baby moon wheels for me for $79 a piece that "should work" but they need to see the truck first. After its back from its brake job, I'll swing it by and see what they say.

I used what are called "buldge" nuts. They have a large flare and extend well past the hole's edge.

If anyone knows the difference between truck and '40 Chev Deluxe Sedan wheels, I have a bunch of '40 Chev 16" wheels. PM me if you are interested in them.

There’s one opinion from a professional, thanks Scott.
There aren’t any around here Big, just a bunch of pimply faced kids now days.
I’m gonna try to get the front end guy to check the alignment this week, and then pull the drive shaft and have it checked for balance. Gonna play with tire pressures after that. I’ve been running 50psi and I think that’s a little too bouncy without a load. Might be contributing to the throbbing or oscillation I’m feeling out on the road.
Kinda thought I might get an opinion from the Longbox, whatcha think Bill?
Tks
