Although still not ready for prime time I took the truck out for a short 1 mile spin today to shake it down a bit. This was more akin to a dock trial rather than a sea trial, as I knew there were still a few pending issues to be resolved prior to venturing out too far. The biggest outstanding was that the newly rewound generator had a grounded armature and had to be taken back to the generator shop. For some reason the temperature gauge decided to stop working and there remains a mystery in the 4-way flasher circuit. The radio also decided it didn't want to work after being installed.

Hopefully next week I'll start driving it in earnest to discover what else needs attention and will then take it back to the body shop for some additional tweaking, alignment, and paint touch-up.

Plenty of new photos are up on my Picasa site.

Beautiful truck! Glad to hear of the progress, you give others of us hope as we stare at our boxes of parts and the mess were making.

Love ALL the pics showing your progress.

Cool. cool

Don, now you have went and done it....I've drooled all over my keyboard. I know it was a proud moment and I can just see that big smile on your face. It must have surely been a Kodak moment. I'm happy for you and look forward to seeing it in person someday.
A job well done. You get an "A+" on your report card dance

Thanks guys, ain't PhotoShop a wonderful thing? Just kidding, but believe me there are still quite a number of warts and blemishes that need to get edited out before I'm satisfied.

This has been a real learning opportunity for me and there are certainly ways I would have done things differently in retrospect. There's nothing that a little more money and time can't make right and I'm finding that the old adage "it's never finished" is so true in this case. Right now I just want to putter around in Viejo some before I head back to the body shop.

Thanks again for the kind comments.

Don:
The truck looks perfect; there can't be anything wrong with a truck that looks that good.

I put 50 miles on Viejo today and it was a real joy to drive the old truck again after it being in mothballs for 12 years. The driving was like I remembered, but the wind noise exceeded what my limited memory recalls. Even though I installed insulation barriers the heat too was a bit warmer than I expected.

The generator failed after about 40 miles but other than that things went well. There are still plenty of loose ends to tie up but I'm really excited to be on the road again after such a long sojourn.
