I have a 1948 Chevy 1/2 Ton 3 window Model 1300 and I was hoping one of you Chevy fans would be able to help me decode my VIN. I know I can pay a service about $40 to provide me with the history of the truck but I actually only wanted to know where it was built.
It goes like this: 8131405781
8- year 1948 13- is a 1/2 ton 14- is a short box 05781- unknown????
Hy atomsplitter2731, It looks to me like you have all the basics nailed down already, the last five digits are the vehicle production number, and as far as I know all Canadian production in 1948 was from Oshawa Ontario, hope that helps.
Like 3B says you have it all correct. My 49 is 91314.... (not trying to be secretive just can't recall the last numbers!) Mine was built in Oshawa and sold in Victoria to a farmer on Saltspring.
