Hey guys,

Yesterday I went and looked at the GMC that I am going to pick up today. Turns out it is a 61, not a 63. It has what I was told was a dealer installed camper. The camper may be for sale, or maybe the whole rig if anyone is intrested. I think it is a 3/4 ton. It has coil springs in the back with leafs comming out the back of the arms. The V6 has been replaced with a big block chevy. The truck has some rust on the cab over the windsheld, in the door jambs, in the doors, and front fenders. Check out my Webshots and let me know what you guys think. Is it salvagable? Is the camper worth anything? IM not sure what im going to do with this baby yet. Any opinions are welcome!

Is somebody giving it to you? Those rusty spots look pretty bad, especially the ones around the top of the windshield. Depending on which engine it has, it would be worth having just for the part-out value, but I'd think long and hard about trying a restoration. Restoration parts for the 60-64 models are scarce and expensive. I'd donate the camper to the nearest scrap metal yard.

A ton of work, but lots of rare parts.

Well, until I saw the roof pictures I was going to say it's in better shape that my truck, and I've been using it in that shape for 7 years. That roof doesn't look good at all, but the front inner fenders are good. Seems to be a fair amount of usable parts on it. And a big block! That camper shell looks scary though. smile

If you feel like swapping a cab, there are better ones out there. The bed looks nice, those grilles are desireable. The camper would be a great meth lab out in the woods(very popular down here), just add some propane bottles & you're set.

NOOOO!!!! Don't kill it! I LOVE the camper on it. You guys have obviously never read "Travels With Charley."
Yes, the roof and A-pillars might be rough, but I think that camper would be awesome to have. Also, it looks like there is a professionally (factory) installed auxilliary gas tank there. I haven't seen that before. Looks like a great, clean installation. And there's also the plumbing to make that secondary gas tank work.

I really dig the truck. Then again, I just got back from driving my '97 Dodge Dakota from Atlanta to the Bonneville Salt Flats and back in a week with my son, and both wife and son for the return trip (she flew out). We practically lived in the truck the whole way...I'd make real good use of something like your rig.

Can you drive it to Atlanta for me?! smile

It's a close call. The roof is really rough, but everything else seems to be in pretty good shape. You might want to get rid of those square tires, though.

If I could think of an affordable way to get it to Atlanta, I'd buy the bed, chassis and camper from you. dang.
