I took the front bumper center ornament apart almost 12 years ago and for the life of me can't remember what held the three horizontal cross members in place. Each cross member has one hole just off center as depicted in this photo . You can see the hole in the bottom cross member just to the right of the spring retainer. The middle and top cross members also have one hole each. The holes only penetrate one side wall on each cross member.

Anyone have one of these? I realize that the answer is probably simple but it eludes me just now.

welded? ..... also I think that's called a 'grill guard'

Bill - I don't think is was welded as I didn't grind any welds off years ago. I thought the grill guards were the two "guards" located on either side of center and called this cool accessory an ornament because it's function is to hide the crank hole in the grill. It folds down to allow access to the balancer in the highly unlikely event you might want to try to break your arm.

hmm, can't imagine any other way than spot welds - maybe the chrome shop filled some mount holes?

the guards on each side are called 'bumper guards', and the center one is built off a bumper guard, but I've only ever seen a more elaborate center piece like that refered to as a grille guard ... they're all grill guards really, as the function was to prevent the bumper of a vehicle you were pushing from jumping over your bumper and mushing the grill ... push starting used to be pretty common, to avoid those broken arms

Thanks Bill -- Grill guard makes sense to me. Perhaps someone else here has a similar center grill guard installed and may be able to shed some light on how the cross pieces are secured.

You mean you didn't save the original factory duct tape used to hold it all together?????
