I rebuilding another T-5 tranny for my 50 Chevy. Chilton's say's to use loctite 601 or equivalent to seal the counterhsaft bearing in place. Parts stores don't have it but did have high strenght 641 or 643. Permatex web-site does not list any of these #'s. I want to use the right stuff, and don't want to lock the bearing in place so that it will never come out again. I also don't know the intent of the sealer, if it's a mechanical bond or just a sealer. I suspect if it was just a sealer they would say to use RTV as they do in the rest of the instructions. Any Ideas?

For permanent bonding, Loctite is the finest thing available. It is resistant to water, diesel fuel, gasoline, antifreeze, hydraulic fluids, motor oil and transmission fluids and major shop fluids.

According to "Loctite adhesive/sealant product selector." The technical features are:-

#609 [product no. 60931] (601 in UK)

for retaining bearings, bushings, and sleeves.
Green colour.
Viscosity cP 100-150;
gap filling ability w/o primer, 0.005 inch;
sheer strength 3,000 psi;
temperature range -65 to 300 degrees F.;
full cure w/o primer 6 hrs; full cure w/ primer 1 hr. (to mount a component on a shaft they indicate that it will work with anything from a "press fit" to a slip fit of two to four thou)

That last post has a link for an Australian website but you could also go to: www.loctite.com and hunt around in the U.S. site and find the same info there. Try and find out a local distributor in your area from the website info. I do know that the 601 number has now been changed to 609 in the U.S.A also. Hope this helps.
