Gang,

I have the rebuilt 216 kinda working. The problem with not getting good spark and with not getting oil to the rockers was because the distributor was not quite pushed all the way down when I installed it. So I got intermittent spark and a bit of oil. Thanks for your help on this.

My next question: I have not rebuilt the carb. Everything else has indeed been rebuilt. I have a kit to do this but I am wondering if there are parts of the carb that can not be made "new" with the kit. I am thinking that there are carbs have shafts that run through the housing and sometimes the races are worn and alow air to be sucked through. Should I buy a new carb, or if I rebuild the Carter W-1 that I have, will it be as good as new?

Thanks again for all your help.

I tried rebuilding my W-1 last year....the problem I ran into was that some of the brass screws inside the carb would not come out. Give it a try. It is not hard. Use a good cleaner and let it soak. I use a carb cleaner from Yamaha...it is spendy, but works like a dream. lay the parts out on a clean white rag, away from dogs, kids or wife. Take your time. All you will have to do is buy a rebuilt and send in your core if you fail...
