I just purchased a 1961 1/ ton pu to restore with my son. I want to build this truck for him to drive back and fourth to school and I would like to upgrade the brakes with a dual master cyl.. however this truck has a master cyl that shares the reservoir with the hydraulic clutch. what I need to do is either find a master that has dual reservoirs for the brakes and a clutch reservoir in this same configuration (which was probably never made )or find some way to mount two seperate master cylinders on the firewall in this close configuration one for the brakes and one one for the clutch. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated

I have the same question. I have a '61 long bed Apache 10 that needs new brakes and I figure I might as well upgrade them at the same time from the original master cylinder.

I've done a lot of searching on this site and other sites and have yet to find a definitive answer. I could have sworn there was a link on one of these forums to a brake parts site where they sold a dual reservoir master cylinder w/ power brake booster and separate clutch reservoir built into the bracket. It listed for $495! That's a bit steep. This assembly was also pretty huge.

I would like to keep my drums and manual brakes and just split my front and back brakes. Has anyone else done this?

If I'm reading this right, all you need is a dual MC and another reservoir for your hydraulic clutch? Honda has done that for years. You shoud just be able to take a regular single MC (like the one on my '66 C-10) and just use it as the clutch reservoir. It's very compact, and all you have to do would be to remove it from the donor vehicle, pick a place to mount it on the firewall, then run your lines. You should only have to worry about drilling the mounting holes for it, since it won't have rod from the brake pedal. Maybe I'm thinking wrong or something. I hope this helps. John

That's way to much screwing around. The original setup works fine.
