Bookmobile

Finally, our 1955 Chevy Second-Series Bookmobile has a legitimate home. After a few year's worth of negotiating and hand-wringing, Baby will get a make-over and start hitting the streets!

I can't wait to get going on it! (Optional redneck moonroof is just a previous handler's interim storage solution.)

That's just beautiful! And you're going to work it as a bookmobile? Really? The reason I'm asking is that I'm about done with a bunch of my old books, and I'll be in the market for others.

Of course I know it's a ridiculous concept. Everyone's too busy watching the Simpsons or Paris Hilton or whatever to read.

Looks like it is in GREAT shape! I'd love to know what it looks like in the "library." Are there shelves or baskets?

Please consider adding it to the Gallery area. I'd like to see more pictures of it!

Hi y'all,

I've sent some pix and a brief story to the Gallery. Yes, we're going to use it as a Bookmobile, and the story will be posted in the gallery...hope it doesn't take two weeks!

Last year I sold a '48 Chevy Panel Truck, that had been converted, when new, to a Bookmobile. The sides folded up "Gullwing" style. See it here, http://rides.webshots.com/photo/2337867920052570246bETGtx

55book,

that is a cool truck. I like it.

We want more pictures, of course.

interior of the bookmobile

Okay,

Here's the all-original book-box interior, which I'll leave as-is.

The J255 chassis-cab unit is the 1545th one to leave the factory. Now I need to find out how many were produced in total.

Anybody out there know?

that 1545 is out of the number of trucks overall, at that plant - don't think you'll find more than how many light trucks were made system-wide

and note that the moderator adjusted your first post to make the picture into a link - it's what's prefered here, rather than posting the pic inline
