If that is the case, allot of the major insurance companies will carry your classic vehicle on your family policy, with some possible driving limitations. In some cases they may even move you to one of their "specialized coverage" companies to give you a lower rate. In many cases, you must have an equal number of cars to the number of drivers in the household. For example, if you have two cars and your classic vehicle and three drivers, they will not give you full coverage on the classic vehicle because it becomes apparent that someone may be driving the classic vehicle on a regular basis. So, assuming you have enough vehicles to exclude the classic vehicle form the daily driving routine, most of the companies will give you full coverages providing you agree to and can prove a "stated value". A "stated value" usually requires an written qualified apprasial of the vehicle. That's about it, and even if you choose a specialized company for your coverage, you will still have to prove value and you will be limited on your coverage. Joe

This was at a lower rate than the collector car insurers. There are obvious advantages to being able to sit down, face to face with your agent and purchase the specific coverage you want. Getting a full explaination of just what your policy covers, before you need it, just makes good sense.
I can't speak to the service provided by the specialty company insurers because I've never been forced to use them!!! Sometimes the best deals are right under your nose!!!

Taylor will only insure a stock vehicle, 2500 annual mileage, no work/daily use, and it must be garaged. They go up to 30K without an appraisal. Haggarty and others have similar requirements, some are more liberal on miles and modifications. Fred

The agent that carries all of my other policies wrote me up for my Bolt.
I told the company my truck's stated value and did not have to provide an appraisal so long as it is below $25,000.

i only had to supply an appraisal and we took a ton of pics. the appraisal was simple, went to a local car dealer and he wrote the value on his letter head.
full coverage = $281.00/year. not sure if it's high or not, but i drive it a lot and don't want the restriction. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 1,554 | Shop around starting with your regular insurance co.If you have no luck with them there are many insurance cos. that cater to classic vehicles.Mine are insured thru my reg.ins.co.Not supposed to be used as a regular driver, but who knows what you do.Basically the same restrictions as historical license plates. | | |
