on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 42 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 42 | Hi everybody! I'm sure its been asked before but here's my situation. I've got my 1960 chevy project truck that I tinker with here & there. I've always wanted to stick with the 235 & torsion bar front end but have found that parts are not so plentiful for it. My cousin restored grandma's 69 recently & shortly after doing so found a rolled late model 4X4 So he converted it to 4 wheel. He has the newly rebuilt coil spring front end just sitting & offered it to me for the price of a 6 pack of his favorite beverage. And I can have the 350 & auto trans from the rolled burb for the same price if I want it. It's not a 235 but the price is right. Anyways, is this front end swap a bolt it up & go or is it a major mod job? | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | I've heard of people making that swap, but have never seen a write up giving the details of how it was done.
The motor and trans swap part should be straight forward. The side mount small block was an option in that truck, and the T350 mounts the same as the later Powerglide which was an option in that same series of trucks. I'm sure you'll have some work ahead to make it work.

It sounds like I may be better off to stick with the original plans. I'll look it over in the next weekend or so.
Nice project you've got there halfpint33. Mine is the long bed step side as well. my dad bought it second hand the week I was born & it lived through my brothers, me & several others learnin to drive and being our high school vehicle. That is one tough truck. It finally died several years back when my nephew ran the rear end out of juice. It sat for quite a few years out in a field after that. I put a rear end in it & moved the wifes minivan out of the garage to give it a home. I've got a long way to go to get it back on the road.
Thanks again & good luck with your projects! | | |
