Was it common for 1948 Chevy to use GMC motors in their Heavy Duty series?

I am finding it difficult to locate resources who really know the differences between the 3000 and 4000/6000 Series. Was/is the 270 a good motor? What about the tranny? Does the 4400 use same body panels, doors, fender, hood, bumper, etc. This is not a COE but a HD flatbed.

Help!

Chevy trucks had Chevy engines, GMC trucks had GMC engines (unless it was built in Canada, then things get screwy). If it is a 270, someone probably swapped it in when the car motor the truck came with blew up.

A 1948 4400 is a 1-1/2 ton with a 161" wheelbase.
The cab, including doors, is the same as the smaller trucks. I'm not sure about the fendersand hood but I think they are the same as 2-ton, which are bigger than pick-up ones.
The 270 is a great motor. It is a real truck motor. As GMCpanel inferred, the chevrolet trucks came with a car motor.

It's a well-documented fact that GMC used a much stronger alloy in their engine castings.
