| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 | Installed a booster and cylinder re-ran new lines, the front brakes bleed fine but the back ones barley have fluid that runs out when i bleed em. Is this because the back are still drums using shoes and the lines are smaller or something else. I put rotors on the front and have no problem with fluid flowing to these. I also installed a proportion valve. I used all the parts from a 87 truck, the booster is working i tested it and the lines are ran to the correct parts of the master cylinder. thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | Is the prop valve new or used? Sometimes they stick & don't flow fluid. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 | The same one that was off the 87 so pretty used. I get some fluid but not much. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2003 Posts: 2,384 | That's prolly your problem, its 20 yrs old. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 Junior Member | | Junior Member Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 45 | | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Sometimes you can free them up by gently tapping on the side of the housing witha ball peed hammer, or alternitavle, open up a bleeder and have a helper give the pedal a good solid kick. I've used both tricks and they do work. Unless the valve is totally corroded shut, then you'll need a replacement.

It always wreaks havoc with people when they try to bleed one end of the vehicle. Look at the valve and see if it has what looks like a button on the end of it. If it does, it will need to be re-centered for fluid to pass through. Thanks i will give it a shot and let you guys know , thanks for the help. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,101 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 2,101 | After you center the piston in the proportioning valve, open the bleeder screw on one of the rear brakes and let it gravity bleed. It will take a couple of minutes, when some fluid comes out close it and then do the other side. This gets fluid in the lines and won't cause the valve to shut off when you bleed the system. Fred

Afterwards i was able to get fluid to all wheels but the back right. The back right came out but not like all other 3, i think it may just be a clogged bleeder going to keep trying it, thanks for all your help. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2004 Posts: 1,552 | Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
