Shmoo;
The mirror set came from a used parts outfit. They are all-stainless, sold on 1-tonners in the 70's and 80's. The place I went to had several sets, and I picked what I liked.

3/4-ton trucks were also in that yard with the same mirrors and elbows, but with a much shorter strut arrangement which would serve you, I think, very nicely and fold inboard of the body for shoehorn fits into a small garage. I got this arrangement so I could fold them out to see around an 8' wide load. The right convex is a standard FLAPS 4" unit, and the left is a 3" stick-on. They work marvellously. Folded out, the convexes flip to the bottom and are still easily visible. I have NO blind spot; nothing can sneak up behind me.

As I said, the tailgate extension is yet to be built; Gotta hit the scrapyard for a bit of angle iron: the extension will slide in from the top. There will be a row of tarp-strap hooks on the lower side and rear rail, and maybe later there will be bows for a canvas roof.
Greg;
You're retired, ain't'cha? Why don't you come on over here and I'll give you a closer look at #97? Maybe you could spend a day and see how the other side lives . .
#97 is a beast! A monster. And it is the last of a line: It has a computer-controlled engine, high-tech all the way, yet it looks not substantially different from Freightliners built in the 60's and 70's. I love anachronisms, maybe because I am one, as are we all on this board.
