I have had a Saginaw 4spd with a Hurst shifter in my '51 1/2t 3100 for 7 years. It has never gone more than 1-2 months without the linkage jamming in 2nd gear. I then have to pull over, stop the truck and pull the shifter into reverse to clear the jam. Then I drive using 1st, 3rd & 4th. I then reset the alignment and the shifting is fine for a couple more weeks...them boom, it jams again.
I have replaced the Hurst shifter (twice), pulled and checked the gearbox. I have called Patrick's, Hurst(Mr. Gasket) and numerous tranny experts. We have checked & double checked alignment and reset the rods many times. The truck runs fine for a while and the set-up goes away.
Everbody tells me this Hurst "set-up" is bullet proof...but I can't get it to work?
What am I missing? Do I have to bend rods? Is there something in Patrick's conversion kit that I could have screwed up? I'm at the end of my rope and need some real creative help not a screwdriver in four holes.
