For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 | I'm trying to install an under bed tire carrier, and am having some problems. First of all does anyone know the bolt size on the drivers side where the carrier attaches,I think it might be 9/16". There's a welded in nut on the frame for the bolt I believe. The carrier doesn't seem long enough because using the other mounting point the bolt would be on an angle unless I'm using the wrong frame holes. I believe the carrier mounts diagonally. The new bolt I bought from LMC for for the passenger side won't fit through the hole from the top because of the length of it. It looks like a floor boards in the bed would have to be removed which doesn't seem right either. Any help is much appreciated. Joe

I noticed nobody answered you. I hate when that happens, b/c it has happened to me before.
Hmmm I wish I knew... but I don't know how it is suppose to work on there. I have a 1963 and it doesn't have a under the bed spare carrier so I couldn't compare to give you an idea.
But you might want to check with folks from MarK bed parts, maybe they might have some sort of idea. Those tech guys sometimes are real helpful with diagrams and since they may come across it when folks are installing their bedwood, they might know.
Best of luck! Tony | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 | Thanks Tony, I appreciate your help. I'm sure it's something simple or that I'm overlooking. I'm sure I'll figure it out in time. I'll try to contact Mark bed parts. Thanks again, Joe

And of course the Assembly Manual has ALL the specs and nut sizes etc, etc. The carriers are placed into different positions depending upon the type of truck (ie longbed shortbed 4x4) and upon the size of the wheel/tire combo needed. Believe me, a picture is worth a 1000 words. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 213 | Thanks k10, I do have an LMC catalog for 60-66 Chev.,I have looked at the schematic and it has helped somewhat. I didn't realize there were different positions for the bed size, so that's helpful too, mine is a short bed. There's a car show around here every Monday night. I went last Monday and there were a few 60-66 pick-ups there with the under bed tire carrier. I looked at their spare tire mounting, but I'll have to check them out again at the next show if they're there. It was a nice show and about 200 cars showed up. Thanks, Joe

I don't mind bending the bolt a little,no one will see it anyway, and it's only for the spare tire. Joe
