I don't know how it is in the rest of the US. In NJ if your property is contaminated with gasoline, it doesn't take much, you could be faced with big bucks proving it hasn't hurt the water table. Also gasoline must be in a red container marked gasoline.

Pour it on fire ant hills! They don't like it at tall.

Donate it to the National Petroleum reserve. Since it only cost about 27 cents a gallon you won't get much of a write off.

Put it in one gallon glass jars like we did as kids, and bicycle it to the nearest suitable site for playing fireman.

Put Styrofoam in it, which will turn it into a nice napalm type jelly, which makes it even funner to play with.

Get some old gas cans and mark them with big letters "GAS" leave them in the back of your truck and park it on the street. When you come back I am sure it will be gone!

The best way has already been stated, contact your hazzardous waste office in your county and ask them where and how to dispose of the gas. You may be limited on how much you can dispose of at one tiem, but they will have a solution for you.

I worked for a school district when one of my mechanics came to me and said a bus driver put in a half a tank of diesel fuel in a gasoline only tank, He was panicked and wanted an immediate solution. I had him fill up the old busses against the fence for auction with the fuel. I notified the buyer that the tank had contaminated fuel, he bought some fresh fuel mixed it and drove off in the sunset (largest smoke cloud you ever saw) and down to Sonora Mexico!

Here in Vegas If you left it outside your garage in a 5 gallon gas cans for more than 5 minutes some idiot would steal it and you wouldn't have to worry about it !!

In a few more years you could take jars of it to the antiques road show and see what it's worth at auction. By then it will be a thing of the past.

i have a 53 chev car,i drained the tank,,,Red gas...smelled funny...took some,put it in a burning barrel...didnt go Whoosh....just easily burned..i guess the octane was out of it..

Five years ago, a friend of mine was putting the finishing touches on his restored Shelby GT500 Mustang. He sold it, and was going to deliver it to the guy the following day. Had it on the lift in his shop to replace the fuel tank sending unit. Spilled some gas on the floor. The bay door directly behind the lift was open. Like he'd done a million times over a 20 year period, he walked over to his electric power washer and flipped it on to wash the gas out the back door.
As soon as he hit the switch, the spark inside the contact ignighted the gas fumes, blowing him out the shop door.
The fire ran up the trail of gas into the tank, exploding the tank. The ceiling of the warehouse caught fire, and it looked like the inside of an oven. The shop didn't burn to the ground though. The Mustang was a total loss--body was bent from the heat, roof caved in, front fiberglass melted, wheels melted, quarters caved in...saved the long block, the auto trans and the differential.
Lost four more cars, too.

All from less than a gallon of gas on the floor.

Get a plastic gas can, dump the gas into it, and if you can't get rid of it in a bonfire, call the local garbage dump and find out how to deliver hazard materials to them. Any garbage dump is set up to take old thinner, paint and other flammables.

And if you do a bonfire with it, be sure you're not standing in a depression when you light it--the fumes will collect in a depression, and make a nice big flash. When my dad was a volunteer fireman 20 years ago, another volunteer fireman set himself on fire by using gasoline to light a pile of leaves and branches. had them all in a depression in his back yard. Stood in the depression, struck the match, tossed it and was surrounded by flames. Burned him pretty bad.

Respect old gas.
