After 6 months and at least 12 trips between the DMV and Tax acessors office I finaly receved my title in the mail today. The coolest thing about it is it lists on the title my grandfather as being the previous owner. He bought it new in 1948

There really isn't any advice to give other than see what your state DMV requires. After my 3rd trip to the office with everything they requested, I found an error in her interpretation of the out-of-state title and actually had everything on my 2nd trip. Rather than pointing that out to the nice lady across the counter (who could make my life a living hell if I told her how to do her job), I just said, "I think we've got everything this time" and paid the extra $20 get the title in my hand before I walked out the door. Had I pointed out her mistake, I would have probably had to make a 4th trip or start over in another office.
