Is there a difference between the car overdrive and the truck overdrive 3 speed? I found a trans, but the number on the overdrive unit is R10K-1. Everything I have found refers to R10H-1A or R10Q-1. If the main trans is different, could I just put the overdrive unit onto my truck 3 speed?

Thanks!

There isn't any difference from car to truck for Chevy/GMC. Could it be that the "K" that you're seeing is actually an "H"? Sometimes those old castings can be hard to read, especially if they're a little crusty with road crud. As far as the main trans goes, there are diffences between the O/D version and the standard, mainly it's in the extra holes for lube and the reverse lockout mechanism. As long as it's a GM trans, it will be a bolt in, no need to mount the O/D unit to the original trans. Check out my pix from my signature on the bottom to see how mine's setup.

Andy,
Two minor differences but should not be a problem. The bottom mount holes on the pass car trans are not threaded so you need to use a longer bolt with a nut. Also you will probably have to use the side cover from the truck as the 2-3 shift arm points up on the car. Both levers on the truck point down.(except for 55 6 cyl)
If both have the 4 bolt side cover you are good to go.
