Who makes good headers for a stock V8 Taskforce truck? I'm looking for personal experience, if possible.
The Hedman headers I bought for my truck were garbage. The driver's side looked like the flange was welded crooked/warped, I had to beat it silly just to make it fit on/in the truck, and #7 exhaust port won't seal for more than 5 minutes. Hindsight is 20/20, if I had cut them off the flanges I could have rewelded them, but I assumed it just needed a little clearancing around the steering box.
So, who's got the scoop on a good set of headers? No block huggers, those are as bad as stock manifolds in terms of flow. I want the extra performance and increased economy of full length tube headers. | | | | Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2006 Posts: 586 | I learned long ago that headers are more trouble then they are worth. They will cook your starter, not seal, burn out and leak exhaust or burn your spark plug wires due to no heat shielding. Stick with a good set of stock truck manifolds.Just my personal experience.

I haven't taken the plunge thought. This is what I've found so far. . . Full-length Hedman But for my $$ I'll most likly go with Hooker Super Comp Huggers If you find a set that works well be sure and post back here for guys like me. thanks, Jim | | | | Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 92 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Apr 2007 Posts: 92 | . . . One last set that I was thinking about. It might be the happy medium between full-length and block huggers. A friend gave them to me so the price was right. I used copper gaskets at both the head and the collector and haven't had any real problems. I always snug the bolt when I change the oil so they stay tight.

Tuts 59, does your truck still have the stock steering box, motor mounts, etc? I might just find a pair for that year truck if they fit that well. I cannot explain how poorly the Hedman headers fit, at least on the driver's side.
Thanks guys!! | | |
