Today I purchased a set of rims and tires from a 2005 GMC 3/4 ton diesel. These are factory aluminum wheels with a 16" 8-lug pattern. Looks like my '63 c20 has 1/2" wheel studs on the hubs, whereas GM switched over to 14mm wheel studs starting in 1988(atleast the 3/4 tons) I would like to use the '05 Wheel covers these came with and I found this supplier of retrofit lug nuts for stock GM wheels http://www.ezaccessory.com/GM_1_2_External_Thread_Lug_Nut_p/98-0006.htm
Has anyone dealt with this company before, or better yet tried to do what I am doing? Will it work? I would like to find lug nuts with 1/2"x20 inside thread count, yet are beveled wide enough enough on the face contacting the wheel to safely retain the newer 14mm style wheels.

I bought those exact same lug nuts from another vendor to use on my 1963 C-20, and they worked out great, I am using the newer rally wheels with the center caps, have about 1,00 mile since I put them on. We check and tighten them up before each ride.

i was told that newer 8 bolt rims won't fit on an older 8 bolt rims cause old ones are like 8x6.5 pattern and the new ones are 8x140mm or? i forget cause buddy of mine picked up some 8 bolt rims figuring all the same to put on his 76 Chevy 3/4 ton and the pattern was off cause it was metric spaceing

Mine fit just fine, maybe they were newer Ford rims, the older Fords seemed to have the same bolt pattern, but somewhere along the way the newer wheels change the bolt pattern. I guess in the end you just need to make sure.

Truckstein, I don't recall the name of the vendor, it was one of the guys selling lug nuts on e-bay. I called them and order because they had none on line. If I get a chance I will go back and look it up.

The '64-'66 Chevy C20 had 9/16" wheel studs and lug nuts. I just bought 32 to mount a new set of 17x8 Eagle rims on my factory '66 Chevy C20.

Since we are on the subject of wheels, I was told by someone on here that there is a factory one piece 16" wheel that will accept the factory hubcaps on my '64 GMC 3/4 ton. Any one have an idea what years these wheels were used? I want to replace my 15" split rims.

Have you put them on yet? I got a pkg. of aftermarket 1/2" lugnuts from my FLAPS and they worked on the front Drivers side wheel
My chasis and front hubs are a '66, but the rear axle is from a '63. I will have to double check in the morning. I now have a set of (4)original painted hub cabs from a '66 20 series that I will be putting up for sale. They ought to be cleaned up and painted to do them justice. I can email you price/pic.s if interested... Unless you mean your K20(I know I would get confused with all those trucks you have laying around) one of us bought the wrong lug nuts and I hope it wasn't...

I am trying to bring some clarity to this subject as I found it to be murkier than all hell when a guy is updating to newer rims & tires. I have taken several pictures and will post them soon. The rims are factory aluminum alloy from a '05 GM truck. The bolt pattern jives, the hub cutout is a perfect fit, just the studs on the '05 are bigger, 14MM, making the '05 lugnuts not jive. I don't believe one would encounter this problem on a GM set up from '87 and earlier.

Good question, I don't know. I understand it will take more than just welding those keep tabs onto new rims, as there must be that perfect circumference as well. I have a set of painted bowtie hubcabs for a '66 20 series that I was going to do the same with, but then I found these '05 alum. rims for a good deal. Let us know if you find the right answer and LOL!

I have added photos to show clearances of new '05 rims on '66 hubs, and '66 rims on '66 hubs. Looks about the same, no aftermarket spacer required. I Used stock aluminum rims. This is a 20 series truck with 11x2 3/4" front drum brakes. I hope this can help someone.
