I have screws and bolts on my truck in the same areas as his mirrors. Now there are other mirrors on the truck as you can see in the pic in my sig.

A 66 GMC my brother owned had mirrors that mounted like the ones in the link to photobucket.

My brother did the same and removed them. He said the vision out the side was poor at intersections.

Sablesurfer,

As far as I know they are the orignal mirrors. I can't remember where, but I did read somewhere that "westcoast style" mirrors were available in '66 (may have been a "Camper" and/or "Custom" option). And yes, side vision is not good but you sure get a couple of good full views to the rear which helps with the small back window.

Check out the link below. Brochure second from bottom on right and the one all the way at the bottom on the left - both show those mirrors.

This makes me question whether or not the mirrors on my truck are original. Can any of you tell from what is in my signature line?

I don't believe the mirrors on your truck are original. I believe those mirrors came out on the 71 or 72's. The mirrors on Sablesurfer's truck I believe were avialable as an option. There was a big blind spot, so they came out with what they call below eyelevel mirrors which is what you have. My 1973 has the below eye level mirrors.

Thanks J M. If you look close (not in the pictures) on the truck, you can see where someone did a poor job of bondoing over the two screw holes for the peep mirrors. The original owner was a farmer, he could have swapped them out for pulling trailers. ohwell
