I read the lengthy article about installing a T5, S10 5sp trans behind a 235 but I still have a few questions. I'm going to the swap meet in Arlington, Tx next month and I want to make sure that I buy the right trans. When I find a guy who shows me his wares how do know if it is right for my application? I'm mainly concerned about shifter position (bench seat) and bolt patterns. I would prefer a later model T5 trans. Is there a way to tell from which year/truck the trans came?

This list may not be complete, but it's a start. It includes the NWC T5s from 1980's S10s and minivans. If looking at a T5 at a swap meet, these numbers can be a big help. If the seller knows the source of a particular T5, all the better. Hope this is of some help. Please remember that this page is a work in progress. Feedback, corrections and updates are welcome. Stupid me, I looked on the chart and saw mine was out of an 83 s10 with the .86 overdrive instead of .72 overdrive, which is what my seller told me. Anyway, is there any way to replace the overdrive gear I have already with a new one (.72 od)? Is it just a matter of replacing the assorted gearsets for 5th gear to make it .72 od? I'm already in there overhauling it

Im not much of a mechanic but your simple no BS approach to writing is understandable and inspires that I could do this with some help. Cheers.

I tried two browsers. It must be a coincidence because I live in the DFW area and plan to move to Florida just N of Winterpark where I once lived. If not, you may have to get an output shaft with the correct gear. Hope this helps. Kinky6.

You would need to switch both the gear on the mainshaft and the one on the countershaft. I've seen most of the gears for sale new if you have plenty of money. Might be better to find a used tranny for parts. I took a different aproach to the speedo gear on my hyrid than Jack and put the Camaro gears on a S-10 mainshaft. Not all of these gears come off as easy as others and I had to bring some parts to a tranny shop to have them pressed off, my gear puller just would not work on one. I also found two bad countershafts when dissasembling trannys for parts. The NWC T-5 doesn't use bearing races on it's counterhshaft, so if there is any wear here your countershaft is trash. For this reason when looking for a tranny I would spin it and listen for a bearing noise in the lower part of the tranny. If you hear a noise I would consider this box for parts, not worth much more than $50. Does anyone know if the WC t-5 fits the same as the NWC? Remember seeing a post about them being on a angle. Also anyone know if the wc box uses bearing races on the coutershaft?
