Can I just drain the master cylinder and add Dot 3 or 4 and re-bleed??? Or will I need to flush the system with a cleaner to get rid of this silicone?
Also, anyone tried this newly advertised Power Bleeder by Motive Products. Check out their website, what you think? Looks like a very neat product.

Thanks

silicone fluid + dot 3 0r 4 = very bad, sludgy gunk in your system.

why do you want to change it out? silicone has some nice advantages over standard fluid, namely nonhygroscopic (doesn't suck up water)

i made a pressure bleeder too, i'm trying to figure out how to make it work on my 52. it's the easiest way to bleed brakes i've seen.

EVERYTHING I read re. going to power disc brakes says not to use silicone fluid. Still would like to know how or what to flush out my lines with???

You have to do a complete overhaul of the brake system to get it all out. Flushing won't do it.

You might want to read more before you go to the effort - check out Brake Handbook by Fred Puhn. The book talks about the different type of fluids and the advantages / disadvantages of each. Fred's a Professional Engineer.

I agree with the comments on mixing. To do it right all componets, lines included should be taken taken apart and cleaned when going one way or the other. About the only time you don't want to do use dot5 is in racing. They will tend to get spungy when pressed to the limit. Other than that, I have not heard of a problem with it.

i have used silicone fluid in my 60 mga for the last 20 yrs with no problems. i just put it in and used it to flush the system, which was the instruction in my restoration handbook. yes the brakes are a little spongy but i was warned of that. btw corvettes should not use, i don't know why but that ws a warning i read somewhere. i used a bleeder i got from moss motors that uses the air in the tires for pressure.

thomas, Thanks mucho for the link re. building your own brake bleeder. $25 for the parts and it works like a champ. Also, that BMW site has several very good tip on the tech page.
