| | | | Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 81 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2007 Posts: 81 | When I bought my 1960 half ton Apache last November and had it hauled home on a flatbed, my wife commented that it was the ugliest truck she had ever seen. She referred to it as "old ugly Fred".
The name stuck. Fred is driveable now,and ready for license and inspection. A new windhield and door glass improved his looks a bunch.
The biggest improvement in appearance occured yesterday evening when I finally figured out why he always seemed to have a perpetual frown: the front bumper had been installed upside down by some previous owner.
I notice the sarcastic criticism is more subdued now. My next angle of attack will be door interior cosmetics.

I bought a 60 Apache 10 stepside last November too! It was delivered the day before Thanksgiving, so I haven't driven it much yet. Mine has a 64 grill on it which I'm changing back to the original one, it's on the way back from the chromer. I think the the hood kind of grows on you, I like it now, and it's kind of rare.

Although she doesn't remember a lot about it, we had a mint green 1958 Apache when we moved to Austin in 1966. Youngest son, then age two, rode the entire distance from Arlington to Austin standing beside me in the seat of that 1958 Apache.
My sister lives in your city. Also a retired nephew lives there who at present is restoring a 1938 GMC firetruck. I believe I invited him to join the Forum but don't know if he ever joined.My wife and I both grew up closeby and have family near Mineral Well. We come up every two or three months for a visit. Would love to see your blue Apache.
