I did a bunch of these, removed the flange from the distributor body with hack saw and file, shortened the end of the distributer shaft about 3/8 of an inch and dressed the shaft end with a file.The hold down is home made.Its esay to do, just compare the old and new distributor shaft length carefully. modified HEI body | | |

I'd like to upgrade the ignition on our warmed up '61 235. I need to know what H.E.I. distributor to shop for to modify as you have detailed, and whether or not some have vacuum advance and others don't. I'd like to keep the vacuum advance. Am I looking for a later 250 H.E.I. before computer? What years do I need to look for. Seems like a much less expensive alternative than the $175.00 distributors I've seen advertised. TIA. | | |

They're starting to get hard to find, though. If you have a good points distributor, you can get the Pertronix module for around $85 and drop it in. You can also buy rebuilds from the parts stores, price isn't bad if you have a core. Don't know how much the core is though.
