I'm wrestling with how to shorten the steering column and thinking about using a reversed corvari box mounted where the original box goes, using the original column and a borgesen joint.

Does anyone have any experience with the reversed corvair boxes, like how many turns lock-to-lock are they?

I would love to go with a power steering set up but I just havn't been able to figure out a good way to mount the P/S pump since I've got a/c on my 261.

It seems that there are no others, so now it is up to you to figure it out and take some picture so we can have it as a Techtip Around here, when you can make it up, you can build it, just use lots of twine and barbwire to hold it together I know, us farmers keep everything going that way.

How about a generator power steering pump combo with the pump behind the generator?

I converted to 12v and am now using an alternator. Unfortunately, I havn't seen any alternator-p/s pump combos. The closest I've seen is the Izusu alternator-vacuum pump combo for the diesel engines.

I haven't seen one but there have been several posts about a remote electric/hydraulic pump in some foreign cars and also about the electric power steering (all in the column) I think may be in a Saturn. A click on "search" on this might bring them up.
