I've accumulated a few '39-40 headlights, buying anything with smaller rust holes than the ones that came with my truck (no rust holes would be nice, but I live in the Northeast...). I had them all marked, but when I sanded the paint off all of them this weekend, the notes went too. I'm pretty stupid most days.

I think I have three driver's sides and one passenger side, as one has a larger depression in it where it mounts to the headlight stand, and I think that one was marked passenger. But maybe that depression is a difference between '39 and '40? All the mounting holes for the trim ring and lens look the same, so I guess you can't tell any differences by sealed beam ('40) vs. non-sealed beam ('39). One of them has an extra rivet--maybe that should tell me something?

Ah, one of my usual too-long posts. If any of you out there know how to tell side and year of these things, I'd appreciate it!

Just a guess but I think the one with the large recess goes on the right, passenger side. I'm just not familiar with that year.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
