Enough that I had screeching a tire. It was locking up a bit earlier but this was the worst case. I can get going again easily enough.
The truck has been away for 4 months although I did roll it out of the garage and up and down the street a couple of times during that period.
I know it could be a few things, like a return spring or a rusty drum but before I take it apart I'd like to have some idea of what I'm in for.

Bone dry. Had a seal problem with my 53 and the rim and cap as well as the drum were saturated.
Hoping its not a seal, rather it be a cylinder.

Not leaking but might be stuck internally and not returning. Tryting to adjust it now but the pronged end cap is too far out of the cylinder body. If I force it back in the other side moves out. I found new cylinders at FLAPS so will consider changing it. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,953 | What happened was when someone pushed on the pedal with the drum off, one of the pistons became dislodged and sucked in a bit of air. This prevented the pistons from returning. Had to bleed that cylinder and put them back that way. A good tip I found out later is to jam the brake shoes in place with a pair of screwdrivers when someone pushes the pedal. This way the pistons will not come out too far.
As far as the lock-up is concerned, it seems the cylinder was leaking a bit onto the shoe. One shoe has a shiny spot on it and emery cloth will not take it off. As well the pistons are a bit pitted so I am going to replace it all. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 101 Member | | Member Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 101 | Take alook at the check valve that goes into your booster. I had a problem similar to yours so one day I got under the truck an noticed that the check valve was broken. I replaced it and the brakes are now fine!
