i have a 49 3600. the original rims and new tires. all that is great, but i want a set of dual wheels to put on when i haul a lot of gravel or here in a few weeks we will be burning fields at the farms and i'll take the bed off, put a flat bed on and mount a water tank, i really would like to put dual wheels on it. it is the heavy 8 lug.- total original.

Just get some longer wheel studs to replace the ones you have, then get a set of dual wheels and you will be in business to haul water tank. Tom 1-918-542-3871

Will any old chevy dual wheel set work? it will clear the drums, ect? most rims are 16 inch will those clear, and what about a dually adapter for the front, is that some kind of spacer, between drum and rim? should i try to find the original style dual rims, i know where a truck that has them is, but i also know where a 64 1 ton dual is too, what will work the best/safest?

Mike, yes there is a spacer to put on the front so 1 of the dished dually wheels will mount on the front. I see them on eBay from time to time. And I'm not too sure you have to install longer studs on the rear. Don't know really. Those old trucks were made with narrower wheels and tires than late model trucks - I think the shop manual shows a rear tire center distance of 9". Some modern wheels will be dished deeper than that. They may bolt-up but the inside tire may rub the springs. The 3800 (1-tons) of that age had 7.00-18 tires. That 64 probably has 16" - but may work OK. Good luck and keep us informed. wink
