I recently bought my 37. Bill of sale only. I called wis. DOT, was sent the proper forms, and wallaha! a title appeared in the mail. They wanted a written description of truck, how i purchased it, photos, Local law officer had to verify VIN #, and copy of bill of sale. Most important thing was a visable VIN tag. Without it your screwed. Also as much info from PO is very helpful. The state wants to establish a vehicle history. Hope this helps someone else!

Congrats, it can be very frustrating. How long did the entire process take, (sending in the forms to title in hand)?
Just curious, seems that all states are different.

In Illinois, about three months, form to door. The title VIN number was different than the doorpost tag VIN number so I had to go through the same exercise as a lost title. Got the forms, cop came out and verified the story and numbers and filled out the form. It’s been five months now, I’ve got the revised title, but I still haven't gotten the plain vanilla 'B' plates yet.

It took awhile for mine to come expecting them to arrive at my house. When they didn't I went back and they had them. (Thanks for calling!)

Thats great! I have noticed that it all depends on the person who either gets the mail that day at the DMV or the ONE smart one you happen to get on the phone after 6 calls.

We had some issues with the title to my 66 when we got it. Turns out it was titled in Mexico and there was never any customs forms issued. Plus the guy who sold it to the people we bought it from had never signed the title over. What a pain. I couldnt even read the paperwork. We finally had the guys wife (she spoke english) make some phone calls and she pulled a few favors over at TXDot she had due and I got the title 3 months later. It was a little nerve wracking thinking I just bought a truck I could never make legal. Remind me to never take a gamble like that again!

Great,I've got to go through the whole thing.I bought the truck from the guy who bought the truck from the guy who died before he got the title. Nice huh ? And to really complicate the matter the Vin plates the only thing missing on the truck! :mad: I found old paper work in the glove box,an old registration slip with engine number that matches my engine and some farm animal transactions so the truck was used local within 30 miles from where I live. I also have the old address of the guy who died.

amazingly the whole process only took about 2 weeks. i think it absolutely depends on who you get at the dmv. this guy wanted more info from p.o. even if it was just a statement saying he had no more information! p.o. was very cooperative and this helped, guess i just got lucky!

One more thing i should add. i didn't deal with my local DMV at all. Wisconsin has a Title Research & Information office at Madison. I have phone # and contact name if any Wi. bolters are interested.

Help I have a 50 5-window with vin tag and NO title and here in Tenn I can't get it registered with out a title. Does anyone have any IDEAS what I can do or where I might get one. It is way to good to be yard art and its taking up space in my shop.--Denny [email protected]

Thanks for the tip on the plates Wilber. I never thought of checking back with the currency exchange, just naturally figured the state would send them to the house. I had my "Big old Wife" check at lunch time and sure enough, they've been there since September!
Lesson learned!
