Two of these Teardrop Shaped Pieces were in the box that contained my repro tailgate for the '41 1/2 ton. Anyone got any idea what they are for?

I must admit that the tailgate was listed as a 49 1/2" Wide, no Script ,teardrop Tube, but I still have no idea as to what these two pieces are for.

I'm also posting in the Paint and Bodyshop forum just in case.

Beats me. Did it come with a parts list that you can use to try to identify it?

Looks like a filler to close off the hole in the end of the bedsides. Weld it on and grind smooth.
Popular with people going the street rod route.

I thought the '49 thru '53 beds were wider than the '41 thru '46 trucks, making a '47 thru '53 tailgate too wide to fit on a '41.

I used a tailgate off an AD truck on my '46 and had to have it trimmed down to fit.

Ghostrider hit it right on the money.

Fumblin46 -- You know, I haven't measured that tailgate and will shortly. I sure hope that it's the right size as it's been painted already. The specs show the tailgate as 48 1/2". Looks like a trip to the shop as soon as I finish polishing the Harley. :mad:

according to the MarK catalog, the 41-46 bed is 48 1/2" inside and the 47-54 is 50" inside .... maybe you can just slam it hard?

red n Fumbling - Phew! I too checked Mark's I measured the new tailgate and it is correct. The 49 1/2" described by Tim Tygart's Obsolete Chevrolet pertains to the outer skin overlap. The "box" part of the gate is 48 1/2". I placed my old piece-o-junk up next to it and they match.

Is the blood pressure on the way down now??

I think Ghostrider is right, I suspected that even before I saw his reply. Maybe they got put in your order by accident and some other guy is wondering where his bed hole fillers are.

I got a set of those with my bed I ordered from MarK. I think they just throw them in. If you want to plug up the bed roll you can use them, otherwise just chuck them.

The Ghostrider I presume is correct. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Anyone got a picture of these tears installed? If someone needs them let me know and they'll be on the way.

Here is a picture of the teardrop installed. BTW, I don't really care for the look. Perhaps Blue dots instead?

I would go for a set of bedroll lights. Check out what this fellow stovebolter did for a solution.

Down2sea, if you're not going to use those teardrops, have Roberto hold onto them and maybe he can install them on my truck.

You may want to give him a little nudge next time you're at the shop to remind him about my truck.

I know he's been busy putting in a complete Duron Paint Mixing and scanning system this week and his painter Bob is going in to have a lung removed this weekend. He has hired a new Duron certified painter who will start next week, just about the time Bob runs out of air...
