But you can go longer between oil changes with synthetic. 1951 3800 Be the change you want to see. -hotshoe

The problem with switching between petroleum based oil and synthetics is that the engine seals become saturated with whatever you are using and may develop leaks if you switch. This is more common when switching TO a synthetic oil, but the same principle applies both ways. If you are not running an oil filter (as in the case of many old stovebolts) you probably won't realize any benefit from synthetics since you must change the oil much more frequently. I've been running Shell Rotella T in my 235 which was a recommendation I got here. It has worked out great and is comparable in price to other petroleum based oils.
I wouldn't recommend drugs, alcohol, and violence to anyone...but they've worked well for me.

If you have been running synthetic for any length of time, I'd stick with it. I run synthetic in my 98 truck, but I put a lot of miles on it for work. In my bolt I run straight weight 30 because I can't find the 20 that's spec and 30 weight is fine in this desert environment.
Do you run a straight weight synthetic? Were do you find it? I've seen all multi weight blends and I was taught that straight weight oils are better for these older engines. Just curious. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | Royal Purple is the only company that I've found that produces synthetic oil in a straight weight. I'm planning on changing over to synthetic myself, I've alredy swapped the tranny and diff to Lucas synthetic ant I have noticed a difference in the performance, especially in the trans.
