Just an FYI for all y'all who would like to have better brakes. I bought a used hydravac off a guy in Oregon who crashed his big bolt GMC into a ditch with a full load of soil on board. It seems the e brake didn't hold. Tweeked beyond repair he is parting it out. I'll give you details if interested. Anyways, he sold me his remote mount Bendix Hydravac booster for $50 bucks and I gave him $25 to ship it to me. At the same time I found a brake shop near me that rebuilds anything brake related. So, I drove up there and asked him about disc brakes for my 3600. I had to wait because he took a call from a guy named Boyd Cotington, whoever that is. So he looks at my truck and says he can engineer power front discs on it for $2,000 and I'll need to leave it for about 2 weeks. You can leave it today if you want. Don't worry, he says, it'll be inside. I showed him the Hydravac. He knew what it was but wasn't too impressed. I saw where this was going so I went home and went to work.
The unit cleaned up pretty good. Found a good place to mount it, fabricated a mounting bracket, drilled, bolted and plumbed, and did a quick bleed. Started the motor and....It's alive!!! I now have power drum brakes!!!! It cost me $75 plus whatever for the plumbing and took me a couple days so far. More details and pictures later.
