I know there are kits out there to fit a 1984 Toyota power steering box in the original location for early Ford (48-56?) and for 55-59 Chevies.
My question is, can this p/s setup be used on '47-'55 Advance Design trucks? Does anyone make a kit?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

They do conversions on a variety of older vehicles. They also sell the components. I did the Toyota conversion on my 56 3100 about 5 years ago. It works great. It mounts inside the frame like the stock unit. You may have a clearance problem with your AD truck if you have a V-8 in it, depending on what exhaust system you have. Fred

| | | | | Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Aug 2004 Posts: 141 | Back when I was looking around for PS boxes, I recall finding that the mid-70s Dodge truck PS boxes had both standard and reverse rotations, remanufactured by 'Lares.' If you fabbed up a bracket, the reverse-rotation box ought to fit inside the frame rail like the stock unit. You'd have to use a modern steering column, but big deal. I ended up using an 'ad-on' linkage system with sensor valve on the drag-link and a hydraulic ram behind the solid front axle. many of the parts vendors, like Chevy duty, sell a bearing to install in the bottom of your old column after you remove the old box.
I did, and have pictures on the link below.
I used an IH Scout PS box, but I also swapped my front axle.
If nothing else, my pictures may give you some ideas.
