Only difference is the frame they sat 'em on, and the front fenders.
Even the hoods and grills are interchangeable.
The less expensive 1.5 and 2 ton trucks are a great place to score parts for the 1/2 ton trucks.

I've had 12 '39 thru '46 trucks out here, all 1.5 ton or 2 ton, and have yet to have a tank that wasn't a perfect fit in a 1/2 ton truck.
I don't know how they could make the tank any bigger, tho.. maybe slightly 'thicker'?

Light Delivery 3/4 ton Heavy Duty Schoolbus
It lists the tank size for the 1/2 ton trucks at 16 gallons, and the 3/4 ton and heavy duty truck tanks at 18 gallons.. with 'school bus' tank capacity at 20 gallons.
The two gallon difference, is so slight i'd never noticed it, and needed no modifications to put a 2 ton tank in a 1/2 ton.

I was making the point that the larger tank should be an ez upgrade because the cabs are the same!
