Is the underseat gas tank from a 46 1 ton chevy truck the same as a 41-46 1/2 T PU underseat tank?

For future reference, everything in the cab, including the cab and doors, is the same in '41 thru '46 Chevrolet trucks.

Only difference is the frame they sat 'em on, and the front fenders.

Even the hoods and grills are interchangeable.

The less expensive 1.5 and 2 ton trucks are a great place to score parts for the 1/2 ton trucks.

What fumblin said with one exception... the gas tank from a 1.5 or 2 ton has more capacity than the gas tank of a 1/2 ton, but should fit without much modification.

Maybe the extra capacity thing was an option or something?

I've had 12 '39 thru '46 trucks out here, all 1.5 ton or 2 ton, and have yet to have a tank that wasn't a perfect fit in a 1/2 ton truck.

I don't know how they could make the tank any bigger, tho.. maybe slightly 'thicker'?

I just checked a 1942 Chevrolet Truck owners manual, it breaks the trucks into four catagories:

Light Delivery
3/4 ton
Heavy Duty
Schoolbus

It lists the tank size for the 1/2 ton trucks at 16 gallons, and the 3/4 ton and heavy duty truck tanks at 18 gallons.. with 'school bus' tank capacity at 20 gallons.

The two gallon difference, is so slight i'd never noticed it, and needed no modifications to put a 2 ton tank in a 1/2 ton.

I wasn't sure what the breakdown was, but I suspected a larger capacity to combat the lower fuel efficiency! I was making the point that the larger tank should be an ez upgrade because the cabs are the same! Thanks for the confirmation!
