For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 71 Member | | Member Joined: Jul 2005 Posts: 71 | What problems are to be expected fitting a 270 into a 39 or 40 pickup? I think I've read that the radiator has to be moved forward due to the extra length of the GMC engine. Is this right,& what is involved regarding hood modifications etc? Are there any alternative solutions? I'm not concerned about running gear adaptions, as long as it is realistic to physically fit the engine into the engine bay. Do the same problems exist in the heavier trucks of the same years? Ken, here's a link to the Tech tip Old Sub mentioned. Rusty - I'm not anti-V8, but I'd go 270 for this project to stay closer to original & still have reasonable pulling power.
We've got several 270's lying around just waiting for a use.
I've joined over on oldgmctrucks.com - Thanks Cletis, I'll search through - excellent site there too | | | | | Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 Extreme Gabster | | Extreme Gabster Joined: Oct 2001 Posts: 3,458 | Let us know how it comes out, I'm about to put a GMC 302 into my '50 1/2 ton. I'm excited. I'm probably going to put a Howard log manifold on it, I have a set of Holley 94's in my garage just waiting for a home.
