hiya folks,
I ran my 65 up on the ramps and crawled around looking for numbers on the engine block, here is what I found.

Below the driver's side head, near the oil filter:

20_ the last digit is either scratched out or it may be a 1 or 11. maybe even a 7. So it MAY be either:

201
2011
207

sheesh.

On the passenger side of the block, under the head, in front of the starter:

A 3

D N

B 88 9

To the right of those charecters there is a cast single dot with smaller dots in a circle around it. I have no idea if that is helpful or not...

I changed the oil last week, and the 5.7 L oil filter fits on perfect. So... if anyone can help, I'd appreciate it.

www.mortec.com will tell you were to find the casting number and tell you a little about it. The block casting number is on the back side of the block were the tranny mounts on the top. Usually hard to see if the is a lot of grime on it. That dot with other dots around it shows the time of day and what shift it was cast on I think.

yes you can read that casting number on the back - I've done it twice w/ task force and a 67 - if ya can get at it good enuff w/ a brush to make it easily readable - just remember mirrors make things backwards!! also there's usually a date code, I think I remember about middle of driver side.

The numbers on the back of the block are just casting numbers. they only tell you what block it is.many engines could have the same block. a 327 and 350 can use the same block. the best way to tell what you have is to look on the pass side front, the deck that the head bolts to has numbers stamped into it. those number will tell you what the engine is,what car it came from,the production plant,and what tranny was originally behind it.if you need help email me the numbers and I can look them up for you.
