Very nice, that looks like the original bed. I've been looking for that style of sheetmetal for a while.

Have fun

Thanks InMy40s, Yeah, thats the original bed. I love it. I've owned alot of other cars and trucks, even 4 old Harleys and nothing has compaired to this truck. It's made just that much more enjoyable by the bolt, what a great way to share expierences.

Avette4me, Beautiful truck! My brother owns a '58 and a '59. Not nearly that nice-Of course he loves them just the same.

A diamond in the rough, I like the original bed, that's way cool. smile I also like the short wheelbase. I am guessing that it is either a 3/4 or 1 ton? What is the interior like, is there a lot of rodent damage?

Keep us posted with any progress.

John

It's a 3/4 ton. 125.5 WB.
I pulled an entire wheelbarrow full of pack rat nest out from under the seat and there's a birds nest in the area around the windshield wiper. The seat frames are in great shape and the fuel tank is very nice. Its not rusted through except a little on the door skins and in the front of the cab under the fenders. I'll definately be posting photos of its progress.

I'm not sure what plant it was built in, but I'm sure the engine's a 235.

J lucas, I love that Chevrolet Grille. Thats the grille I want.

That is a nice truck. I can't say that I have seen the GMC version of the front grill before. How would a 42 truck have been sold? Would it have been for a vital business , military or could civilians buy new trucks at that time?

I dont know who the primary buyers would have been for these trucks in '42, this one was bought originally by a local rancher.

When I bought it I didn't realize it was that rare. I really didn't think of it, I was really looking for a Chevrolet. But hadn't seen any for sale except one and it was a LITTLE overpriced.

I wondered what the horn was, did'nt think it was original. Is it?

I got the truck running today. I drove it for about 30' and felt like a kid with a new toy!!!
The truck needs a water pump, plan to buy one next pay day so mabey before long I can drive it 100' grin

Great truck! 30' is pretty good for a "first" drive.
What kind of wheels and tires are on your truck?

Wow.. the underside of that thing looks like it had been used to ferry Cuban refugees!

Looks pretty solid, tho.. and i'll bet being from New Mexico that a little elbow grease will have that underside looking good as new.

You going to keep the flatbed on it, or put a factory bed on?

an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

That horn is aftermarket. J.C. Whitney used to sell them. A control wire ran into the cab. You could make it whistle, or sound like a siren--all sorts of ways to get a kid into trouble!!! grin grin
