I've been looking for that style of sheetmetal for a while.

I love it. I've owned alot of other cars and trucks, even 4 old Harleys and nothing has compaired to this truck. It's made just that much more enjoyable by the bolt, what a great way to share expierences.

I also like the short wheelbase. I am guessing that it is either a 3/4 or 1 ton? What is the interior like, is there a lot of rodent damage? Keep us posted with any progress. John

I pulled an entire wheelbarrow full of pack rat nest out from under the seat and there's a birds nest in the area around the windshield wiper. The seat frames are in great shape and the fuel tank is very nice. Its not rusted through except a little on the door skins and in the front of the cab under the fenders. I'll definately be posting photos of its progress.
I'm not sure what plant it was built in, but I'm sure the engine's a 235.
J lucas, I love that Chevrolet Grille. Thats the grille I want. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 200 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 200 | That really is a nice art deco. I can't say that I have seen the GMC version of the front grill before. How would a 42 truck have been sold? Would it have been for a vital business , military or could civilians buy new trucks at that time? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 181 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 181 | Porn for stovebolters! Great looking truck. After seeing that one, I have to get the one I found sitting in a hedgerow near by. | | | | | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,995 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 2,995 | Love that vacuum-operated wolf whistle!! When I bought it I didn't realize it was that rare. I really didn't think of it, I was really looking for a Chevrolet. But hadn't seen any for sale except one and it was a LITTLE overpriced. I wondered what the horn was, did'nt think it was original. Is it? I got the truck running today. I drove it for about 30' and felt like a kid with a new toy!!! The truck needs a water pump, plan to buy one next pay day so mabey before long I can drive it 100' | | | | | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 305 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 305 | cool old iron im worling on buying a 1942 gmc 1 1/2 ton truck for a roll back

Always get a 2nd opinion, especially if I am the source of the 1st opinion.

Looks pretty solid, tho.. and i'll bet being from New Mexico that a little elbow grease will have that underside looking good as new.
You going to keep the flatbed on it, or put a factory bed on?
an idea is only stupid if you think about it rationally.

You could make it whistle, or sound like a siren--all sorts of ways to get a kid into trouble!!! | | | | | Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 96 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Nov 2006 Posts: 96 | Cooool!!
