I've read that a S10 frame is a perfect replacement for a 47-53 3100.I know I will have to make some new body mounts but other than that is it a easy swap? Do I need a long bed frame or short bed frame?

You will need a regular cab, long bed (+/-118"wb). Go to the Advanced Design Engineering website and look under FAQ's. I used their kit but you could fab your own cab, bed, and running board mounts but it will take some time and good measuring. I was short on time so I used the kit.
Good luck.

Hi westerman and welcome to the best truck site on the web. Here are some related threads related to your question:

thread one

52 burb restification

Mongoes garage

Here is a stovebolt thread that is chocked full of that s-10 swap stuff.

AD Engineering

There are quite a few aricles on the HAMB and even over at GMC Discussion on that subject as well. Both of those are great truck sites as well and have tons of information. I hope this all helps... smile
