Is it supposed to travel the full distance from E to F? When you read mine the marks at 1/4 tank is bone dry empty and 3/4 is full. If that isnt the normal range, how do I get it to travel the full range of the guage? I have the warning light guage panel in my truck. I can't say that any of the 6 64-66 GM PU's I have had ever worked right. The only way I know to adjust it is to tweek the float arm in the tank ontil it reads right. Other wise you just learn that when you get down towards a quarter tank, to find a gas station. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 313 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2005 Posts: 313 | It sounds like you may have a faulty gauge or sending unit, because the gauges in all three of my 1966 Chevrolets would go from F to E. However, due to my previous experience with GM gas gauges, I rarely allow them go below the 1/2 mark. I had a 1970 Pontiac that would read 1/4 when full and 1/8 when empty. I ran out of gas several times with that car. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 Ex Hall Monitor | | Ex Hall Monitor Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 6,377 | Check the resistance of your sending unit. 30 ohms in the full position and 1-2 ohms empty. If it reads that your gauge is likely faulty.

The needle on the fuel gauge, whether in a gauge cluster or warning light cluster, should make a full sweep from emply to full, if working properly. I have several that work, as designed. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 266 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 266 | Thanks guys, I just posted an ad for a warning light cluster fuel guage. | | |
