Has anybody ever heard of a Stovebolt 235 in a marine application?
I know they used the inline '63 and later 230's etc. I think as the Mercruisers but what did humanity do before 1963?
I've seen all kinds of old flathead inline Gray Marines, converted Jeep motors and even a Studebaker setup but didn't Chevy ever put an inline Six in a boat?

Not sure. Chriscraft was a big producer of small boats back then, what did they use?

Criscraft used a 283 in their inbord application.

Some of the old mahogany boats used flathead 6's like the ford 226. The boat racers bought a lot of the "hotrod parts" (i.e. manifolds, heads) that were made for this engine back then. These parts are almost non-existent now a days and command a HIGH price.

The old-timer, at the local radiator/exhaust shop, that split my 216 manifold, talks alot about the "good-ol-days" when he used to build 235 "drag-boats".

Jed/Eric...that's very interesting about the old-timer you know and the "235 drag-boats" he used to build. You don't happen to have a contact for that fellow do you?

BTW...this is way off topic,,,but have any of you heard Ken Lay's conviction for fraud was overturned on account of his "death"? A 2004 ruling by the 5th Circuit Federal appeals court allowed his lawyers to clear his name on 10 counts of fraud. The timing of the 04 ruling and his death is sooo coincidental. His family gets to keep the $45 million or so he helped steal from some banks and California...and I thought only Mexican drug kingpins faked their deaths...maybe when he was in that Aspen hospital (Colin Powell was there at the exact same day for "altitude sickness")he actually got plastic surgery!

We ought to get Mapleleaf to show us the Marine 235 he just got to put in his truck -- it came out of a lobster boat. A lot of the old timers in the Maritimes and around Downeast Maine used them in boats -- just make a different exhaust jacket and longer hoses. You don't need the fan anymore, either.

Chevr aulait : No I didn't hear about that. I hope that the employees sue the crap out of his wife for the money that was stolen from them.

A friend had an Owen, wooden cabin cruiser, 60 something, with a 283 inboard. He's got the motor still, just rebuilt, if anyones interested, (the boat sank )
