I really can't see this whole thing getting off the ground. Like everybody said they've got the whole motor thing all screwed up. It also looks like they have a little hood fit situations. I wish them luck.

I like it. I'm saving up my money now and have all the zeros! What kind of motor is a F**D? Is that the same as a FORD?
Seriously can you imagine if GM built their HHR like that, the line up to buy it would be long. I think they missed the boat again with the HHR like they did with the cancelled SSR. Even their new Camaro is going to cater to a few with deep wallets. I want one but why would I want a CD player, power door locks, GPS, etc in a muscle car.

Maybe all of you are missing the boat, it isn't a Chevy and it isn't a Ford, it's a "SOUTHERN". Now, Chevy couldn't come to agreements with furnishing the drive trane and Ford did. This has to do with warranties and service. Now, the way I look at it, SOUTHERN can use any engine they want, it's their build. If you don't like it, don't buy it. And if you don't want to buy it, don't bad mouth it. :confused:

I certainly don't see where any bad-mouthing is going on. We have all expressed our opinions both negative and positive for the truck. Expressing a negative opinion is not bad mouthing the truck. Bad mouthing the truck would go something like this, "Southern must be a bunch of idiots to put a piece of crap Ford motor in that excuse for an AD truck. I wouldn't drive my worst enemy off of a cliff int that truck. We should spread the work that these trucks are junk and not worthy to be on the road." I don't see any comments like this.

I appoligize I did forget about the bean counters that also have lots to do with the marketing of any product that we see either make it to market or not.

Actually, I would say some bad mouthing has been going on regarding the choice to use a Ford engine in what is obviously a Chevy derived body style. However, I don't have a problem with people expressing their opinions, that's what the board is about. The real question in my mind-as I've stated before-is why aren't Chevy and Ford coming out with true retro styled vehicles that would certainly sell better than the "retro" styled vehicles (SSR, HHR, etc.) that are being built now. About the only retro vehicle that is selling well is the new Mustang, which has a lineage, a large devoted following, and retro styling that is truly retro (unlike the HHR). Hey, I love Chevys, but that doesn't mean I can't see the mistakes that I think they are making.

I guess I have been hiding under a rock; I just saw the Southern 358 yesterday when my Jan 07 Classic Truck mag came in the mail. I usually don't buy slick mags but my girl was selling subscriptions for school. I think the truck is COOL. Certainly out of my price range, but very nicely done. It is really a bold and risky move by the developers- and costly too starting a new car company in this environmental, safety and legal climate. My hat's off to them. I too wish it had an all Chevy drive train. But as others have said, it's not a Chevy, it's a Southern.

If i was in the market for a new truck, i would buy one. it is one good looking truck. having a drive train serviceable nation wide is a plus. it ain't a ford and it ain't a Chevy, it's a 2007 Southern.

If I remember right you have to give them a huge down payment before they build the truck, but it is at your specifications.
Its a nice truck-and has been brought up on this site many times before. Who else to make an evaluation on the truck but truck enthusiasts...and the AD truck is by far the most popular truck in traffic out there.

I think its a good idea-definately a 'new' idea in its own right. Who knows where it will go-if enough are sold the price will come down to reasonable i think..

What's the odds of the southern truck to be using the repop cab ? Could this be why they are hitting the market about the same time ? If a guy likes it,and can afford it,buy it.I personally would'nt buy it,i like the real chevrolet trucks.The southern trucks are good looking !!!

The top doesn't look chopped to me. On the page that has the PROFILE those straight-on front and rear views look full height to me.
OOPS - I looked again and I see it: the rear window is down closer to the belt line. My bad.
Still is a cool (yet expensive) truck.
