I did a forum search and found a thread from about a year ago asking for opinions and whatnot regarding these motors.

Here\'s a link to the catalog page .

So, MikeE (and anyone else who has one), how do you like it? Are there any gotchas when installing one on an Art Deco? (Aside from the switch thing and the plate thing, that is.)

Any input would be appreciated. My vacuum unit isn't working, and we're getting into the rainy fall, and I'd prefer not to be caught with my proverbial pants down! grin

That motor looks just like a marine wiper motor, which come in different shaft lengths.

Have you considered looking on e-bay or a marine supply store?

Here's an e-bay example of what looks like the same motor.

Brendan;

Mine works fine. I am not thrilled with the extra heater switch/Rehostat but it works. You can get the same switch at Fleet Farm too. On your side of the water, try Tractor Supply. There is no return on the switch so you have to play with it to get the wiper out of the windshield when you turn it off.

I had no problems putting it in as I remember. It semed to me that the speed of the motor was a little fast and the extra switch was needed to slow it down.

Make sure you get the switch bolted down so it doesn't move. It gets pretty hot. I ran a line from my fuse block to the switch and then to the wiper motor, grounding to the frame. The wires run from the switch to the windshield post. You can snake them right through it and it comes out in the overhead area by the wiper spot. I would replace the rubber grommet that goes through to the outside as well, maybe even use some silicon to seal it up.

All in all it is pretty painless. Mounting the switch was the hardest part.

Speedway only has 12V motors.

a 6 v to 12v converter is pretty easy to come by. Radio shack has them and I'd bet Speedway sells them too, if you wanted to go that route.

I've got them on my '46 Panel and they fit inside the cover alright. I just don't like that they each have a switch and have to be tied togeather with the reostat. They work fine other than that.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I do understand that there are downsides to all of my options, however, I feel that an electric motor is the way to go in this case.

I'm running a 6v system, and I'd really rather not have any voltage boosters in place that don't strictly need to be there.

I did find a 6v model on ebay, complete with cover plate. I'll keep an eye on it.

Thanks again!
